Long-haul truckers sharpen first aid skills at life-saving meetup

Long-haul drivers gathered recently to refresh their first aid skills at a dedicated meetup. The event, organized by the Lüneburg Police Directorate, took place at the Ostetal Süd rest area on the A1 motorway. Participants practiced life-saving techniques to improve safety on the roads.

The 227th long-haul drivers' meetup focused on medical emergencies and first aid. Drivers reviewed how to recognize symptoms of cardiovascular issues, perform CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED). They also practiced placing someone in the recovery position.

Finding medical care while on the road can be difficult for truckers. Many struggle with limited access to doctors or safe parking near clinics. DocStop for Europeans, a nonprofit, helps by offering a Europe-wide hotline for medical advice and appointment assistance.

Untreated illnesses or injuries can affect a driver's ability to operate a vehicle safely. The session aimed to reduce risks by ensuring drivers know how to respond in emergencies. The next meetup is scheduled for March 4, 2026, where the focus will shift to managing hazardous traffic situations.

The event provided drivers with practical skills to handle medical emergencies while traveling. By improving first aid knowledge, organizers hope to enhance road safety for long-haul professionals. The next session will build on these efforts with a new topic in mind.
