Surgeons Remove Football-Sized Hernia in Rare 3-Hour Operation

A 52-year-old woman from Primorsky Krai has undergone a complex surgery to remove a massive postoperative hernia. The growth, measuring over 20 cm in diameter, was successfully treated by surgeons at Vladivostok Clinical Hospital No. 2. The patient sought medical help after the hernia near her surgical scar expanded to the size of a football. Doctors at the hospital performed a nearly three-hour operation to repair the condition.

During the procedure, the surgical team carefully preserved the function of her ureters and urostomy. To reduce the risk of recurrence, they implanted a mesh endoprosthesis. The woman recovered well and was discharged after one week. She is now receiving follow-up care on an outpatient basis.

The surgery successfully removed the large tumour and repaired the hernia. The patient’s recovery is progressing as planned, with ongoing monitoring to ensure long-term stability. The use of a mesh implant aims to prevent future complications.
