A stroke awareness campaign titled 'STOP Stroke!' took place at the School of the Third Age on October 23. The event formed part of a week-long initiative leading up to World Stroke Day on October 29. Its goal was to educate the public on stroke prevention, risks, and the importance of timely treatment. Tatiana Nikolaeva, chief neurologist for Yakutia’s Ministry of Health, delivered a lecture during the campaign. She covered essential topics such as 'Stroke: What You Need to Know' and 'The Mysteries of Memory'. Attendees learned about the nature of strokes, their risk factors, and the different types that exist.
Experts highlighted the significance of recognising early symptoms. They also clarified common misconceptions about what not to do in the event of a stroke. Participants received practical training on first aid, the critical 'golden hour' rule, and rehabilitation methods.
The campaign stressed that regular medical check-ups, a healthy lifestyle, and managing risk factors can prevent strokes. Sedentary behaviour, poor diet, excessive alcohol, and smoking were identified as major contributors to stroke risk. The initiative provided attendees with actionable knowledge on stroke prevention and response. It also reinforced the message that early intervention and healthy habits can save lives. The series of events continues to promote awareness ahead of World Stroke Day.
