My Business: A five-minute family scare led this UAE founder to build a safety wearable

Tapy Aman Watch Protects Vulnerable Loved Ones with Smart Tracking

A new smart wearable called Tapy Aman Watch is helping families keep vulnerable loved ones safe. Designed for people with disabilities and the elderly, the device prevents wandering and alerts caregivers in emergencies. Its creator, Youssef Alhussainy, built the solution after a personal experience with his sister. The idea for Tapy came when Alhussainy’s sister Rawda, who has Angelman syndrome, went missing during a house move. This incident pushed him to develop a wearable that could track and protect those at risk of isolation or wandering.

Since its soft launch in October 2024, Tapy has reached families across the UAE, Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Malaysia, and Kuwait. The device has also gained recognition, winning Best UAE Homegrown Business at the MBRIF Demo Day and appearing on EDB Accelerator Live. Beyond sales, Tapy supports families in need through the No Families Left Behind initiative. So far, 150 watches have been provided to those who cannot afford them. Alhussainy, who comes from a business family, emphasises the importance of strong infrastructure for scaling a company. His advice to new founders is simple: start with a problem you cannot ignore. Looking ahead, he aims to make Tapy a trusted safety tool across the GCC. Plans also include expanding the No Families Left Behind initiative through partnerships.

Tapy Aman Watch is now available in multiple countries, offering security for vulnerable individuals. The initiative to donate devices ensures more families can access the technology. Alhussainy’s focus remains on growth and partnerships to widen the project’s reach.
