Gelatin Microspheres Offer Breakthrough Relief for Knee Osteoarthritis Pain

A new treatment for knee osteoarthritis has shown promising results in clinical trials. The method uses gelatin microsphere injections to block abnormal blood vessel growth in the joint. It offers an alternative to current options like hyaluronic acid injections or joint replacement surgery. The study included 194 patients with severe arthritis and 10 post-surgery patients suffering from chronic pain. Doctors injected gelatin microspheres into the knee, which blocked blood flow and then gradually dissolved.

The treatment led to a 47% average reduction in pain intensity among participants. Additionally, 80% of patients reported improved mobility after receiving the injections. The effects lasted at least a year, with most participants showing sustained improvement and no serious side effects reported. This approach provides a new option for the hundreds of millions of people affected by knee osteoarthritis. The results suggest long-term pain relief and better mobility without the need for invasive surgery. Researchers see it as a viable and safer alternative to existing treatments.
