Mass health screenings in Primorsky Krai uncover thousands of hidden illnesses

A large-scale health screening programme in Primorsky Krai has identified thousands of residents with previously undetected medical conditions. Since the start of the year, nearly 85,000 people have been referred for further examination after initial assessments revealed abnormalities or diseases. Between January and April, 286,106 residents completed preventive medical examinations and comprehensive health check-ups. Of these, 49,769 underwent routine screenings, while 236,337 had full medical assessments.

One in three examined residents required a second-stage assessment. In total, 84,901 people were referred for additional testing. The screenings uncovered 54 previously undiagnosed malignant tumours. Other detected conditions included 4,891 circulatory system disorders, 575 cases of diabetes, and 476 respiratory diseases.

Reproductive health assessments were also conducted, with 62,299 participants. Among them, 7,885 men and 9,695 women were found to have risk factors. Additionally, 306 men and 4,406 women were diagnosed with conditions needing further treatment. The programme demonstrates how early detection can reveal serious illnesses before symptoms appear. Many conditions, such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and cancers, often go unnoticed in their initial stages. The findings underline the importance of regular medical check-ups for public health.
