Legendary Soviet actress Ludmila Chursina dies at 84 in Moscow

Ludmila Chursina, a celebrated actress and People’s Artist of the USSR, has died in Moscow. She was 84 years old. Her long career included memorable roles in films and TV series such as Ugryum-River, To Remember or Forget, and Anatomy of a Murder 4. Chursina gained widespread recognition for her performances in Interns and Closed School 4. Her contributions to cinema and television earned her the prestigious title of People’s Artist of the USSR.

In September 2025, she was hospitalised for a week in a cardiology intensive care unit in St. Petersburg. Despite medical care, her health continued to decline. The official cause of her death was chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Her passing marks the end of a distinguished career that left a lasting impact on Russian film and television.
