Cricket for a Cause: MND Association's Summer Fundraising Challenge

The MND Association has launched a summer fundraising challenge called 'hit MND for six'. The campaign encourages people to organise charity cricket matches, raffles, or tea breaks to raise money. Every donation will support those living with motor neurone disease and fund essential research. Motor neurone disease is a fatal condition that attacks the nerves controlling movement. It causes muscles to weaken and eventually stop working, affecting speech, swallowing, and breathing. In the UK, six people receive an MND diagnosis every day, with over 5,000 currently living with the disease.

A third of those diagnosed die within a year, and more than half do not survive beyond two years. There is no cure.

Nick Varley, 58, received his diagnosis in November 2024. He is now rallying amateur cricketers to join the MND Association team for fundraising events this summer. All proceeds from these activities will directly help people with MND and advance research efforts. The 'hit MND for six' initiative aims to raise awareness and funds through community events. The money collected will provide support for patients and drive scientific progress. The association hopes the campaign will inspire widespread participation across the UK.
