Yakutia mourns the loss of dental pioneer Semyon Filipov at 63
Semyon Viktorovich Filipov, a prominent figure in Yakutia’s dental community, passed away suddenly on 18 October 2023. Born on 6 September 1960 in Chukar, Nyurba District, he dedicated his career to advancing dental care in the region. Filipov began his journey in 1981 by enrolling in the Faculty of Dentistry. After graduating, he worked as a dental surgeon in the maxillofacial surgery department of Republican Hospital No. 2 from 1986 to 1990. In 1990, he was recommended for a targeted clinical residency at the N.A. Semashko Moscow Medical Stomatological Institute.
In 1996, he became the first head of the newly established dental department, a role he held until 2001. A year later, he founded the Yakutsk Dental Association in 1997 and served as its first president. In 1998, he launched a clinical residency program in dentistry to support the next generation of professionals.
In 2007, Filipov opened his own practice, Doctor Filipov Private Clinic. From 2020 to 2022, he worked as a dentist at the Anabar Central District Hospital under the state program Zemsky Doctor. Filipov leaves behind a lasting legacy in Yakutia’s dental field. His contributions include establishing key institutions and programs that shaped dental education and practice in the region. His sudden death marks the end of a career marked by dedication and innovation.
