Pampanga unveils two cutting-edge medical hubs to combat infectious diseases
Pampanga has opened two new medical facilities to strengthen disease control and treatment in Central Luzon. The Centre for Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine and the Central Luzon Infectious Disease Referral Laboratory were officially launched with support from provincial leaders. Governor Lilia 'Nanay' Pineda and other officials attended the event to mark the occasion. The newly inaugurated Centre for Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine is designed for specialised care. It includes triage emergency room beds, paediatric intensive care units, and adult ICU beds. Isolation wards, haemodialysis units, an operating theatre, and a delivery room are also part of the facility.
The centre’s infrastructure supports isolation and containment measures for highly infectious cases. It is equipped to handle outbreaks while ensuring patient safety and infection control.
Alongside the treatment centre, the Central Luzon Infectious Disease Referral Laboratory is now operational. The lab can test for a wide range of diseases, including respiratory infections, dengue, leptospirosis, and mpox. It also covers HIV, hepatitis, tuberculosis, and drug-resistant tuberculosis, providing faster and more accurate diagnostics for the region. The new facilities aim to improve disease detection and patient care in Central Luzon. With advanced testing and specialised treatment units, the province is better prepared to manage infectious outbreaks. Officials have emphasised the importance of these upgrades for public health security.
