PhilHealth boosts dialysis coverage as NKTI builds Southeast Asia's largest center

PhilHealth has expanded its dialysis benefits for chronic kidney disease patients. The allowable number of sessions has risen from 90 to 150 each year. Both hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis packages now offer increased coverage. Construction of a new 13-story hemodialysis centre at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) is underway. The first phase, covering up to the fourth floor, finished on 26 July 2025. By 24 June 2026, the second phase, extending to the sixth floor, was 70.5 per cent complete.

The facility will eventually host 200 advanced hemodialysis machines. Once fully operational in early 2028, it aims to become the largest dialysis centre in Southeast Asia. The project’s full completion is set for March 2028.

The centre will provide comprehensive services to CKD patients. Across the Philippines, there are currently 904 dialysis centres in operation. The new NKTI centre will significantly boost dialysis capacity. It will offer modern equipment and expanded care for CKD patients. PhilHealth’s enhanced benefits will support more frequent and accessible treatment.
