Experts tackle pregnancy risks linked to chronic diseases at landmark conference

Karaganda Medical University recently hosted a Republican scientific and practical conference focused on extragenital pathology and pregnancy. The event brought together specialists to discuss the challenges and advancements in caring for pregnant women with complex health conditions. Professor Gaurie Bapaeva, the chief external obstetrician-gynecologist of the Ministry of Health, opened the discussions. She identified extragenital pathology as a leading cause of maternal morbidity and mortality. Bapaeva also pointed to rising rates of chronic diseases among women, often due to delayed childbirth, unhealthy lifestyles, and poor ecological conditions.

She stressed the need for a multidisciplinary approach to support pregnant women. Many, she noted, disregard medical advice and prescribed treatments before pregnancy, increasing risks. Early detection of pathologies, made possible by improved diagnostics, now offers better chances for successful births.

Zhanna Amirkekova, a PhD and associate professor at the university, spoke about the progress in modern medicine. She explained that these advancements allow women with serious health issues to experience motherhood. Amirkekova also underlined the value of such conferences for sharing knowledge and exploring new developments in domestic medicine. The conference aimed to make motherhood achievable for more women by addressing extragenital pathology. Experts agreed that collaboration across medical fields and early diagnosis are key to improving outcomes. The discussions highlighted both the challenges and the growing capabilities of modern healthcare.
