New Mpox case detected in Mandaluyong City amid declining national trend
The Department of Health (DOH) has confirmed a new Mpox case in Mandaluyong City. The detection was reported by the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit on 29 June 2026. Officials have stated there is no cause for public alarm. From January 1 to June 13, 2026, the country recorded 44 Mpox cases. This figure is 79% lower than the 205 cases reported in the same period last year. The DOH has emphasised that the disease remains present but shows no signs of an outbreak or rising trend.
The DOH announced it would not intervene in the case, leaving responsibility to the local government unit (LGU). Under Republic Act No. 11332, LGUs hold the authority to issue their own advisories. The department also chose not to disclose individual case details to protect privacy and prevent stigma, given the relatively low number of infections. The DOH has reassured the public that the situation is under control. It has urged calm and maintained that local authorities are equipped to handle the case. The overall decline in cases suggests the risk remains limited.
