Kamchatka's health revolution: Record screening rates reshape preventive care
A large-scale health screening programme is transforming medical care in Kamchatka. Since early 2025, adult participation in preventive checkups has risen sharply across the region. Some areas now report screening rates as high as 70% in the first four months of 2026 alone. The initiative began in 2025 as part of the national project Long and Active Life. Its main goal is early detection of chronic kidney disease and lipid metabolism disorders. Respiratory and cardiovascular conditions remain the most commonly identified issues during screenings.
Remote districts have seen the most striking progress. Hospitals in Klyuchevskaya, Koryakskaya, and Ust-Kamchatsk recorded the highest number of adult participants. Meanwhile, screening coverage for children has also expanded, with some local institutions approaching 50% participation since January. The programme’s success follows a steady rise in adult screening rates throughout 2025. By 2026, participation in certain municipalities reached 60%, with others nearing 70% in just four months.
The results highlight growing engagement in preventive healthcare across Kamchatka. Both adults and children are now undergoing regular checkups at higher rates than before. Early detection efforts for chronic diseases continue to expand under the national health strategy.
