Komi's free health screenings detect thousands of hidden illnesses in 2026
More than 148,000 residents in the Republic of Komi have already undergone mandatory health screenings this year. These free examinations aim to detect serious illnesses before symptoms appear. Early diagnosis improves treatment success and recovery rates. The screenings are part of a nationwide push for early disease detection. Since the start of 2026, doctors have identified malignant tumours in 45 people, diabetes in 270, cardiovascular diseases in 1,305, respiratory disorders in 80, and digestive conditions in 166 individuals. The exams also assess risk factors like poor diet, inactivity, high cholesterol, blood sugar levels, obesity, and smoking.
The programme targets around 480,000 people, including children, by the end of the year. Residents can book appointments through the Gosuslugi portal or by calling Komi’s Ministry of Health at 8-800-550-00-00. Screenings take place at local clinics under the mandatory health insurance scheme at no cost.
Koygorodsky District currently leads in participation, with Vuktyl and Ust-Vym following closely behind. The initiative has already uncovered multiple health issues in its early months. Free access and widespread availability encourage more residents to take part. The goal remains to expand coverage and improve public health outcomes across the region.
