Kazakhstan celebrates record blood donations on World Blood Donor Day
Kazakhstan marked World Blood Donor Day on 14 June with a large celebratory event in the capital. The occasion highlighted the country’s growing donor movement, which saw over 201,000 participants make 250,000 donations in 2025. The Scientific and Production Center for Transfusiology organised the event with support from the Ministry of Health, the akimat of Astana’s Saryarka district, and several sponsors. Its main aim was to promote voluntary blood donation and its life-saving role in surgeries, childbirth, cancer care, and severe anaemia.
Aigerim Sagambayeva, head of donor recruitment, noted the centre regularly welcomes between 120 and 150 donors each day. Among the contributors, Nurlan Zhusupov stood out as a dedicated donor since 2012. He has received recognition for his long-term commitment and now encourages others to give blood while stressing the need for donors to stay healthy. The event underscored the importance of blood donation in saving lives across critical medical situations. Kazakhstan’s donor community continues to expand, with thousands contributing to a steady supply of this vital resource.
