Chronic Sleep Loss Linked to Six Major Health Risks, Expert Warns

Greg Potter, a top UK expert on sleep and nutrition, has highlighted the severe health risks linked to long-term sleep loss. He warns that missing out on sleep can trigger at least six major health problems. Adults are advised to get seven to nine hours of sleep each night. Failing to do so carries serious consequences. Those who regularly lack sleep have a 37% higher chance of developing diabetes. They are also 38% more likely to become obese.

Other risks include a 17% greater likelihood of hypertension. The chances of coronary heart disease rise by 26%. Memory and thinking skills also suffer when sleep is consistently poor. The findings underline the importance of adequate rest. Chronic sleep deprivation can lead to diabetes, obesity, heart disease, and cognitive decline. Experts stress that prioritising sleep is essential for long-term health.
