RQ Bio Secures Funding to Revolutionize Flu Prevention with Single-Dose Antibody

RQ Bio has secured financing to advance its lead programme, RQB01, a long-acting antibody for influenza prevention. The company aims to develop a single-dose therapy offering broad and lasting protection against flu strains. Investors include Frazier Life Sciences, EQT Life Sciences, and other major backers. The funding round was led by Frazier Life Sciences. EQT Life Sciences, Forbion, Monograph, Wellington Management, and founding investor LifeArc Ventures also participated. LifeArc Ventures is a research charity known for its work on humanising Keytruda and its focus on chronic respiratory infections.

RQB01 is designed to provide broad strain coverage, strong neutralising activity, and extended duration. Its dual mechanism of action sets it apart from existing treatments. The therapy is currently in IND-enabling studies, marking a key step toward clinical trials.

Mike Westby, Chief Executive Officer of RQ Bio, outlined the company’s vision for a preventative therapy. A single administration could offer reliable protection throughout the flu season. Christian S. Schade, formerly CEO of Halda Therapeutics, has joined as Executive Chairman to support this mission. RQB01 could become a new standard for influenza prophylaxis in at-risk groups. Such prophylactic treatments may reduce flu transmission and ease pressure on healthcare systems during outbreaks. The company remains in early development, with significant work ahead before reaching the market.
