Veteran's life-changing surgery repairs severe hernia from war wounds
A 57-year-old veteran of the special military operation has undergone complex surgery at Primorsky Regional Clinical Hospital No. 1. The procedure addressed a large postoperative hernia caused by severe shrapnel wounds sustained during his service. Nearly a third of his abdominal organs had shifted outside the abdominal wall due to the condition. The veteran had previously endured five surgeries, leaving him with a 13 cm defect and extensive adhesions. These complications made the latest operation particularly challenging. Surgeons employed the TAR (transversus abdominis release) reconstruction technique to address the issue.
During the procedure, doctors successfully separated the adhesions and repositioned the displaced organs back into the abdominal cavity. The surgery, though complex, proceeded without major setbacks despite the tissue changes from prior operations. The patient was discharged on the 12th day after surgery with no signs of complications. The TAR reconstruction method proved effective in resolving his severe hernia. The veteran’s recovery marks a significant step forward after years of health struggles stemming from his military injuries.
