Free health screenings for veterans and families mark third year
A health screening initiative for veterans and their families took place at the regional hospital’s outpatient clinic. The event, titled Medical Checkups for Our Own, marked its third year running. Organisers worked closely with the regional Health Ministry to make it possible. The campaign was arranged by the Jewish Autonomous Oblast (JAO) Ministry of Health, the local branch of the Defenders of the Fatherland Foundation, and the Association of SMO Veterans. Around 30 veterans and their family members attended the screenings.
The first stage of the checkup covered medical history reviews, body measurements, lab tests, ECGs, and specialist consultations. The initiative also focused on early detection of chronic and oncological diseases. Specialists paid extra attention to health issues linked to combat experience.
The programme complements wider medical rehabilitation efforts for SMO veterans. Its goal is to offer convenient, age-appropriate examinations and consultations in one location. The event provided veterans and their families with direct access to medical screenings. It also reinforced ongoing support for those returning from service. Organisers plan to continue the initiative in future years.
