Emergent BioSolutions lands $200M+ in biodefence contracts amid rising global threats

Emergent BioSolutions has strengthened its role in global biodefence with a series of recent contracts. The company secured new orders worth millions to supply vaccines and countermeasures against biological threats. Governments in North America and beyond have turned to Emergent for smallpox preparedness and broader biosecurity needs.

In March 2026, an unnamed international government partner placed additional orders for Emergent's ACAM2000 smallpox vaccine. Valued at $6.6 million, these purchases build on an existing relationship, reinforcing the country's smallpox defence strategy.

Earlier in February 2026, Canada finalised multi-year agreements with Emergent worth up to C$140 million. The deals, involving the Public Health Agency of Canada and the Department of National Defence, focus on medical countermeasures for biological threats. These contracts aim to bolster the nation's preparedness and response infrastructure over several years. The US government also awarded Emergent a $54 million contract for CNJ-016, another smallpox-related product. This award, issued by the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) under the Department of Health and Human Services, further expands the company's work in biodefence. Over the past two years, Emergent has seen growing demand for its biosecurity solutions. The latest contracts highlight its position as a key supplier for governments investing in long-term threat mitigation.

The new agreements bring Emergent's total recent biodefence contracts to over $200 million. The company will supply vaccines and countermeasures to multiple nations, supporting their efforts to prevent and respond to biological risks. Deliveries and infrastructure upgrades under these deals are expected to roll out in the coming years.
