Unchecked Probiotic Use May Harm Your Gut Health

An excess of beneficial bacteria due to the uncontrolled use of supplements can lead to serious gastrointestinal disorders, endocrinologist, nutritionist, and dietitian Alexey Kalinchev told Abzats.

According to him, the consequences affect those who neglect doctor visits and resort to self-treatment.

"When it comes to beneficial bacteria, this happens when someone overuses supplements containing lactobacilli and bifidobacteria. Clinically, it can manifest as digestive issues: excessive gas, diarrhea, constipation, and impaired normal gastrointestinal function. This is a case of self-medication," the doctor explained.
