Ultras Group Honors Lost Friend with €10,000 Donation to Pediatric Cancer Care
The pediatric oncology department at Braunschweig Municipal Hospital has received a €10,000 donation from the ultras group Schaika Braunschweig. The funds were raised through private initiatives during a joint event and presented in memory of a close friend lost to cancer over a decade ago.
The donation continues the group's long-standing support for children battling cancer in the region.
The Schaika Braunschweig group has been supporting young cancer patients in Braunschweig since 1994. Their efforts include family assistance programmes, funding for the pediatric oncology ward, and projects like the toy and leisure fund. They also organise the annual Schaika Ball to raise money for these causes.
The latest donation was inspired by the loss of their friend Mark to cancer in 2014. Group members Luca F. and Leon M. handed over the funds to Dr. Andreas Beilken, head physician of the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. Luca F. explained that the gift aims to honour Mark's memory while supporting the vital work of the oncology team.
During the visit, senior physician Dr. Johanna Scheer-Preis joined the group, showing how deeply Mark is still remembered by the ward staff. Dr. Beilken expressed his thanks, noting that such donations help provide essential support beyond medical treatment for children and their families.
The €10,000 donation will assist the pediatric oncology department in offering additional care and comfort to young patients. Schaika Braunschweig's ongoing commitment has made a tangible difference for over 30 years. The funds will directly benefit families and children undergoing treatment at the hospital.
