Theology Days 2025 redefines how the Gospel transforms political thought and practice

The 2025 Theology Days event recently explored how the Gospel shapes political understanding, focusing on passages from Romans 12-13. Speakers examined themes like authority, transformation, and love in public life. The discussions also included historical figures who linked faith with political thought.

Meanwhile, in Brussels, Italy’s economics minister met with a senator to discuss the country’s gold reserves and their role in the 2026 budget law.

The conference opened with Leonardo De Chirico explaining The politics of non-conformist transformation (Romans 12:1-2). He argued that the Gospel demands a new worldview, one that challenges existing norms. Pietro Bolognesi then clarified The politics of vigilant submission (Romans 13:1-7), framing authority as a divine tool for human flourishing.

Giuseppe Rizza followed with The politics of differentiated responsibilities (Romans 12:3-8), showing how the church balances unity and diversity. Luigi Dalla Pozza later presented The politics of subversive love (Romans 12:9-21; 13:8-10), linking Christian love to public service. Giacomo Ciccone closed with The politics of evangelical militancy (Romans 13:11-14), urging the church to uphold God’s authority in society. Historical perspectives came from Lucia Bianchin, who profiled Althusius (1557-1638), the first federalism theorist, and Tommaso Manzon, who discussed Abraham Kuyper (1837-1920), a key figure in applying Gospel principles to politics. The IFED institute reaffirmed that Jesus’ lordship extends to all areas, including politics. Separately, in Brussels, Wirtschaftsminister Giancarlo Giorgetti met Senator Lucio Malan. Their discussion centred on Italy’s gold reserves, managed by Banca d’Italia, and their alignment with EU monetary rules under the 2026 budget law. The talks underscored state sovereignty while respecting EU financial stability requirements.

The Theology Days event reinforced the idea that Scripture offers clear guidance for political engagement. Speakers connected biblical teachings to practical issues like authority, unity, and public ethics. In parallel, Italy’s financial leaders addressed economic sovereignty, showing how policy and principle intersect in governance.
