Teen Creates Together IV App to Connect Chronic Illness Patients

A Minnesota high school student has created an app to support others with chronic illnesses. Luke Wachowiak, diagnosed with dermatomyositis and rheumatoid arthritis in 2022, developed Together IV after facing his own treatment challenges. The app launches on the Apple App Store next week with tools for connection and coping.

Wachowiak’s health struggles began two years ago when he started experiencing rashes, extreme fatigue, and constant tiredness. His condition requires monthly five-hour IVIG infusions, which he now receives at home instead of in hospital. These home treatments, confirmed as effective by Dr. Susan Chhen of Fairview Health Services, have made his care far more comfortable.

The idea for Together IV came from his own isolation during treatments. The app offers chat features, trivia games, and coping resources to help users feel less alone. Wachowiak credits his parents, classmate Logan, and his doctors for supporting the project. With a waitlist of 110 people already signed up, the app is gaining attention. Wachowiak plans to market it by emailing hospitals directly. His goal is simple: to build a community for those facing similar medical journeys.

The app’s launch follows months of development and personal experience. Together IV will be available for download next week, offering practical support to users. Wachowiak’s work highlights how lived experience can drive solutions for others in need.
