Silent flu outbreak strikes Kuzbass care facility with 46 asymptomatic cases
An influenza A outbreak has been confirmed at a psychoneurological care facility in Kuzbass. After testing 128 residents, 46 were found positive, though none showed symptoms. Authorities have taken immediate steps to contain the situation.
Separately, a tuberculosis investigation continues at a school in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, where 12 cases were identified in late 2025.
The influenza A outbreak began after two patients with community-acquired pneumonia were hospitalised in Prokopyevsk. Following this, all 128 residents of the care facility underwent testing. Of those, 46 tested positive but remained asymptomatic. The infected individuals were moved to infectious disease units in Novokuznetsk and Prokopyevsk for observation.
Rospotrebnadzor and Kuzbass’s Ministry of Health are overseeing the response. A full disinfection of the facility is now in progress, and investigative authorities are conducting a follow-up inquiry.
Meanwhile, in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Dr. Irina Petrova from Rospotrebnadzor is leading an investigation into a tuberculosis outbreak at a local school. The outbreak, first detected in late 2025, has so far involved 12 confirmed cases among students and staff. Earlier, a staff member had tested positive for the infection.
The influenza A cases remain under close monitoring, with no symptoms reported among those infected. Sanitary measures and disinfection efforts continue at the care facility.
In Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, the tuberculosis investigation is ongoing, with health officials tracking the spread among students and staff. Both situations are being managed by regional health authorities.
