Serov's X-Ray Surgery Unit Saves 3,000 Lives in Just One Year
Serov City Hospital's X-Ray Surgery Unit has carried out more than 3,000 life-saving procedures since opening in June 2024. The facility, focused on cardiovascular care, has already exceeded its initial targets and reduced heart attacks in the region.
The unit was launched to provide advanced treatment for heart and vascular diseases. Within 18 months, it performed 2,057 high-tech procedures—double the original goal for 2025. These included 1,680 coronary angiographies, 174 angioplasty and stenting operations for leg arteries, and 117 laser treatments for varicose veins.
Its impact has been significant. The oblast recorded 300 fewer heart attacks in 2025, thanks to early interventions. Patients who once faced amputations or strokes now receive timely care closer to home. Previously, such treatments were only available in major regional centres, often at a cost.
Looking ahead, the hospital plans to add an MRI scanner. This will further improve diagnostic options for local residents.
The unit's work has already saved lives and cut serious complications. With expanded services on the horizon, Serov City Hospital continues to strengthen healthcare access in the region. Free, specialised care is now available where it was once out of reach.
