Roche Opens New Innovation Center in Penzberg - Roche's €300M Diagnostics Hub in Germany Redefines Medical Innovation
Roche has opened a cutting-edge Diagnostics Innovation Center in Penzberg, Germany, following a €300 million investment. The facility, inaugurated by CEO Thomas Schinecker, marks a major step in strengthening Europe's position in healthcare research and development.
The new center covers 23,000 square meters and will house around 1,000 employees. Its focus lies in developing in vitro diagnostics for conditions such as Alzheimer's, multiple sclerosis, cardiovascular diseases, and personalized medicine.
At the heart of the facility is the 'Cube', a fully automated biobank. It stores 2.5 million biological samples at -80°C, supporting the creation and refinement of diagnostic tests. Schinecker described the center as a key part of Roche's commitment to Germany and Europe's competitiveness in healthcare.
Penzberg joins Roche's global network, which includes its Basel headquarters and major sites in the USA, China, and across Europe. The new facility is among the most advanced in the world for diagnostics research, production, and development.
The Diagnostics Innovation Center reinforces Germany's role as a leading hub for medical research. With its automated biobank and focus on advanced diagnostics, the facility is set to accelerate progress in disease detection and treatment. Roche's investment also underscores the company's long-term strategy in Europe.
