RMCH Receives Tk 36 Crore Adalimumab Donation for Chronic Patients
Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) has received a major donation of adalimumab injections valued at Tk 36.10 crore. The life-saving biologics, provided by Direct Relief, will support patients suffering from severe rheumatic and autoimmune conditions. Each vial, priced at Tk 4 lakh internationally, will be given free of charge to those in need.
The 900 donated doses of adalimumab will be distributed to patients who have not responded to standard treatments. Professor Azad, head of Medicine Unit-5, will assess eligibility for each case. According to him, the therapy offers powerful relief with minimal side effects.
This donation follows RMCH’s earlier receipt of alteplase, a stroke-treatment drug worth nearly Tk 17 crore, also from Direct Relief. The hospital’s partnership with the organisation began through Shirsho Shreyan, a former student and current intern doctor at RMCH.
Brigadier General F M Shamim Ahmed, RMCH director, highlighted the impact of the new supply. He stated that the biologics would greatly benefit poor patients struggling with chronic conditions. The donated doses must be used before their expiry date of October 31, 2025.
The adalimumab injections will provide long-term relief to patients who have exhausted other treatment options. RMCH plans to fully utilise the 900 doses within the given timeframe, ensuring no medication goes to waste. The donation marks another step in the hospital’s ongoing collaboration with Direct Relief to improve healthcare access.
