Pope Leo XIV commends Catholic Charities USA at historic Puerto Rico gathering
Pope Leo XIV has sent a letter praising Catholic Charities USA for its ongoing efforts to support vulnerable communities. The message arrived as the organisation marked its 115th annual gathering, this time held in San Juan, Puerto Rico—a first for a U.S. territory.
The event brought together around 600 staff, volunteers, and supporters from 168 independent member agencies. Catholic Charities USA partnered with Cáritas de Puerto Rico to host the conference, making it the first time the gathering took place outside the mainland United States.
In his letter, Pope Leo XIV thanked the organisation for its dedication to serving the poor, hungry, and homeless. He also recognised its role in aiding displaced persons and fostering connections across nations, cultures, and communities. Kerry Alys Robinson, president and CEO of Catholic Charities USA, responded by expressing gratitude for the Pope’s Apostolic Blessing. She highlighted the encouragement it provided to those involved in the charity’s work.
The annual gathering in Puerto Rico underscored the organisation’s expanding reach and commitment to humanitarian efforts. With the Pope’s commendation, Catholic Charities USA continues its mission to address poverty and displacement across borders.
