Philippines reports 4,633 new HIV cases in early 2026 amid rising concerns
The Philippines recorded 4,633 new HIV cases in the first three months of 2026. Health officials report that sexual contact accounted for the vast majority of transmissions. Daily detections remain high, with an average of 51 new cases each day. In January 2026, authorities confirmed 1,690 new HIV infections. February saw a slight decline, with 1,407 cases reported. By March, the number dropped further to 1,536.
Of the total cases, 91% were linked to sexual transmission. Male-to-male contact was the most common route, with 3,095 infections. Another 567 cases involved male-to-male and female contact, while 552 resulted from male-to-female transmission. Mother-to-child transmission accounted for 13 cases during the same period.
The data highlights ongoing challenges in HIV prevention, particularly through sexual transmission. With 51 new cases detected daily, health agencies continue to monitor and address the spread. Officials stress the need for targeted interventions to reduce infection rates.
