Philippines injects PHP60B into PhilHealth to transform national healthcare

The Philippine government has returned PHP60 billion to the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth). President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ordered the transfer to boost healthcare services across the country. The funds were released in September 2022 following his directive. President Marcos Jr. instructed the Department of Finance to release the funds to strengthen the national healthcare system. His decision aimed to expand PhilHealth’s reach and improve service delivery for Filipinos.

The Department of Finance acted quickly, remitting the full amount to PhilHealth without delay. Officials confirmed the transfer was completed as soon as the President’s order was issued.

PhilHealth welcomed the move, expressing gratitude for the financial support. The agency pledged to use the funds for expanding benefit packages and upgrading its operations nationwide. The returned PHP60 billion will help PhilHealth enhance its services and extend coverage to more citizens. The agency has committed to using the funds for system improvements and reliable healthcare delivery. The government’s action follows a clear directive to prioritise public health needs.
