A motorcycle crash in February has left José Enrique Mendoza Bautista with severe injuries and ongoing medical complications. The 2025 accident near Tlacolula de Matamoros resulted in an open leg fracture, but his recovery has since been marred by alleged negligence at a regional hospital. Now, his condition has worsened, forcing him to seek better treatment elsewhere.
The incident occurred on February 19, 2025, when an ambulance hit José along Federal Highway 190. The vehicle fled without stopping, leaving him with a fractured tibia and fibula in his left leg. He was first taken to a private clinic, where surgeons operated on February 27.
After the initial procedure, José transferred to Oaxaca’s IMSS Regional General Hospital No. 1. There, doctors performed multiple surgeries and washouts on his leg. Yet complications arose—his skin split open after an intramedullary nail was inserted, causing reinfection. Three months later, the infection persisted, prompting him to buy voluntary IMSS insurance for further care. José’s health has since declined further. Excessive antibiotic use damaged his kidneys and liver, requiring dialysis. His leg now has dangerously thin skin, and he has repeatedly requested a transfer to a specialist IMSS hospital in Puebla or Mexico City. According to him, doctors have refused the move.
José continues to face medical challenges months after the crash. His requests for a transfer remain unmet, while his leg infection and organ damage demand urgent attention. The case highlights ongoing concerns about his treatment at the regional hospital.
