Magadan's legendary epidemiologist Nattela Tkavadze celebrates 85 years of life and service

Nattela Tkavadze, a respected epidemiologist in Magadan Oblast, marks her 85th birthday on May 8. Born in Novorossiysk in 1941, she has dedicated more than 50 years to the region’s healthcare system. Her career continues to inspire colleagues and public officials alike.

Tkavadze graduated from Rostov State Medical University before building her life’s work in Magadan. Today, she leads a department at the Magadan Regional Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology, where her expertise remains vital.

Her contributions have earned her multiple honours, including Excellence in Healthcare, Veteran of Labor, and Honored Worker of Russia’s State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service. These awards reflect her long-standing commitment to public health. On her birthday, Dmitry Shapovalov, a member of the Kolyma Regional Parliament, presented Tkavadze with a commemorative address from Anatoly Shirokov, Chairman of the Magadan Oblast Duma. The address highlighted her impact on the region’s well-being and her role in training younger doctors. Shapovalov also gave her a valuable gift on behalf of the legislative body. Dmitry Borovikov, chief physician of the regional hygiene centre, joined in celebrating Tkavadze’s milestone. Colleagues gathered to recognise her decades of service and leadership in epidemiology.

Tkavadze’s 85th birthday was marked by tributes from officials and healthcare professionals. Her work has shaped public health in Magadan Oblast for generations. The region continues to benefit from her experience and mentorship.
