Flu and Stomach Bug: Hospitals Impose Visitor Ban - Lusatia hospitals halt visits as viral outbreaks surge in February
Two hospitals near me in Lusatia have stopped most visits due to a sharp rise in viral illnesses. The restrictions come as both influenza and gastrointestinal infections spread rapidly among patients. Officials warn that even recovered patients can still pass on the viruses for days.
Naemi Wilke Diakonie Hospital in Guben first closed its doors to visitors on January 30, 2023. The ban was later extended until February 7, 2023. Lusatia Clinic in Forst followed with its own restrictions, set to last until February 6, 2023.
Both hospitals are facing severe outbreaks of flu and stomach infections. Visits are now only allowed in urgent cases, and only if arranged in advance. Despite the rules, patients can still receive personal items from family or friends.
Medical staff have reminded the public to wash hands thoroughly and avoid close contact with sick people. They also stressed that symptoms alone do not mean someone is no longer contagious.
The temporary bans aim to control the spread of infections within the hospitals. Patients will continue receiving essential support, but general visiting remains on hold. Authorities have not yet compared Lusatia's outbreak levels to other German regions.
