Life-Changing Ear Surgery Frees Woman from Years of Dizziness and Ringing
A 67-year-old woman in Vladivostok can now live without constant dizziness and ringing in her ears. The change came after a delicate operation to repair a rare defect in her inner ear. Dr. Yevgeny Gilfanov, a leading specialist, carried out the complex procedure at Clinical Hospital No. 1.
The patient had struggled for years with severe symptoms. Chronic otitis media had damaged the wall of her inner ear, causing vertigo, balance loss, and persistent tinnitus. These issues made everyday life difficult.
Dr. Gilfanov, a Doctor of Medical Sciences and professor, took on the case. The surgery lasted just over an hour. Using local tissue grafts, he located and sealed the labyrinthine fistula—a small, abnormal opening in the ear's delicate structure.
The operation succeeded in closing the defect. Almost immediately, the patient's vertigo and ringing began to fade. Her balance steadily improved as she recovered.
The woman has since returned to her normal routine, free from the symptoms that once disrupted her life. While exact figures on similar surgeries by Dr. Gilfanov remain undisclosed, this case highlights the impact of specialised ear repair techniques. The hospital confirmed her condition has now stabilised.
