Kuwait tightens health checks for expats under Wafid programme

Kuwait has updated its medical testing rules for expatriates under the Wafid programme. Health Minister Dr Ahmad Al-Awadhi introduced the new executive bylaw on Saturday. The move aims to improve health checks before and after arrivals in the country. The updated bylaw includes 54 articles designed to streamline medical procedures for expats. It covers laboratory tests, x-rays, clinic checks, and required vaccines. Approved overseas medical centres must now meet stricter criteria for accuracy and reliability.

Medical tests will continue after arrival at authorised Kuwaiti facilities. The rules also push for stronger digital links between health bodies to speed up processing. Transparency and professional standards have been reinforced to prevent malpractice.

Officials describe the changes as a precautionary step to verify expats’ health before travel. The goal is to raise preventive health standards and protect public health security in Kuwait. The new regulations set clearer guidelines for medical testing and facility approvals. They also demand higher ethical and professional conduct from health providers. The updated system is now in effect for all incoming expatriates.
