Krasnoyarsk's Cardiac Center Achieves Breakthroughs in Advanced Heart Surgeries

The Krasnoyarsk Regional Clinical Cardiology Center has expanded its services significantly in recent years. In 2025, it achieved key milestones, including more surgeries, new procedures, and increased funding. Over 300 of its employees also received state and professional awards for their contributions.

The center faced challenges with patient access, as some residents of Krasnoyarsk Krai found it easier to reach the facility from distant regions like Khakassia or Yakutia. Despite this, it continued to grow its medical capabilities.

Additional funding in 2025 allowed the center to perform more surgeries, particularly for severe cases. This included elderly patients with multiple health conditions. The number of implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) implanted rose to over 145 that year. Quotas for transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) tripled, reflecting the center's expanding capacity. It also introduced mitral valve clipping, a minimally invasive procedure for critically ill patients. The pediatric department carried out all types of congenital heart defect surgeries using global technologies—except for heart transplants. Despite an increased workload, the center maintained low rates of postoperative complications and mortality. Staffing levels remained steady at 94%, even amid a broader shortage of medical personnel. After a brief pause, scheduled operations resumed on January 12, 2026, with up to 30 surgeries performed daily.

The Krasnoyarsk Regional Clinical Cardiology Center now handles a higher volume of complex procedures. Its achievements in 2025, including new treatments and expanded funding, have strengthened its role in the region. The institution continues to operate at near-full staffing while delivering specialised cardiac care.
