Kazakhstan braces for deadly 42°C heatwave and severe drought

Severe Drought Expected in Four Kazakh Regions This Month, reports Almaty.tv.

Meteorological forecasts warn of extreme dry conditions in parts of Aktobe, Kostanay, Atyrau, and Mangystau regions in the coming days. The rest of the country is expected to see near-normal moisture levels.

Weather experts predict daytime temperatures in southeastern Kazakhstan could soar to 42°C (108°F), while Almaty is set to hit 38°C (100°F) by Friday.

Health officials strongly advise against prolonged outdoor exposure in such extreme heat, warning of serious health risks.

"In this scorching heat, those with chronic illnesses—particularly cardiovascular diseases, chronic heart failure, hypertension, or diabetes—should stay indoors as much as possible," said Aigerim Isagaliyeva, a general practitioner at City Polyclinic No. 36.

But what should people with chronic conditions, hypertension, and other at-risk groups do?

"As I've already mentioned, anyone with chronic diseases, high blood pressure, or diabetes must avoid direct sunlight—it's absolutely contraindicated. The heat can trigger complications like spikes in blood pressure, heart attacks, or even strokes. If you must go outside, do so only in the early morning or evening, keep up with regular doctor visits, and take prescribed medications daily," Isagaliyeva added.
