Kazakh Woman Escapes Debt Crisis Through Government Support Programme

A woman from Akmola Region has found relief from financial hardship thanks to a government-backed support programme. Zhanar Khasenova, who faced severe health challenges and mounting debts, received critical assistance from the Debt-Free Society initiative after her assets were frozen by court order. Zhanar Khasenova’s struggles began when she suffered two strokes, leaving her with limited mobility and unable to work. With a second-degree disability and reliant on a Dumon stent to breathe, she fell behind on loan repayments. Courts responded by freezing her remaining assets, worsening her financial strain.

In search of help, Khasenova turned to the Debt-Free Society initiative, a programme launched in April 2023 under the president’s direction and supported by the Amanat party. The initiative provided her with free legal assistance to challenge the asset freezes and renegotiate her debt terms. As a result, the freezes were lifted, and Khasenova secured a more manageable repayment schedule. The Debt-Free Society continues to offer similar support to others facing overwhelming financial difficulties.

Khasenova’s case highlights the practical impact of the Debt-Free Society initiative. With her assets unfrozen and a revised payment plan in place, she can now focus on rebuilding her financial stability. The programme remains active, assisting others in comparable situations across the country.
