Helicopter Rescue Saves Two Women After Heart Attacks in Remote Dalnegorsk

Two women suffering from myocardial infarction were urgently evacuated from Dalnegorsk to Vladivostok for life-saving treatment. The operation involved a helicopter transfer to a specialised hospital, where both later underwent surgery. Their recovery has since allowed them to return home. The emergency began when two women, aged 55 and 65, experienced severe heart attacks in Dalnegorsk. Due to limited local cardiac care, doctors at Dalnegorsk hospital requested remote guidance from regional specialists. An Mi-8 helicopter was dispatched to transport them to Primorsky Krai Clinical Hospital No. 1 in Vladivostok.

During the flight, the patients were monitored by an ambulance doctor, Alexey Sidunov, and a feldsher, Dmitry Monchenko. Upon arrival, both underwent immediate surgery. Following the procedures, they completed a full rehabilitation programme before being discharged.

The incident highlights ongoing challenges in Dalnegorsk's medical infrastructure. Over the past five years, improvements have been minimal, with persistent shortages in specialised emergency care such as cardiology and trauma services. Unlike other remote Russian regions, regular helicopter evacuations remain unavailable, causing delays in critical cases. Budget constraints and sanctions have further hindered expansion of these services. The women have now recovered and returned to their homes. Their case underscores the reliance on emergency air transfers for serious medical conditions in remote areas. Without further investment, delays in treatment for patients in Dalnegorsk are likely to continue.
