Germany's Di@ Guides project expands to boost digital literacy for seniors nationwide
A new expansion of the Digital in Old Age – Di@ Guides project is set to launch across the country. From May 11 to June 22, 2026, organisations can apply to become official Di@ Guide hubs. The initiative aims to help older adults navigate digital technology with the support of trained volunteers. The project is a joint effort by the Hessian Ministry for Family, Seniors, Sport, Health, and Care and the Hessian Ministry for Digitalization and Innovation. Digital Minister Prof. Dr. Kristina Sinemus has highlighted the goal of growing the Di@ Guides network further. Currently, over 600 volunteers operate across 70 hubs nationwide.
Local groups such as municipalities, associations, churches, or multigenerational centres can now apply for hub status. Successful applicants will receive free training, workshops, and increased visibility through the project’s website. They will also join a wider network of hubs dedicated to digital inclusion. Each hub recruits and trains volunteer guides, many of whom are older adults themselves. These guides assist seniors in using devices like tablets, smartphones, and smartwatches. The state government provides the necessary technology to support these efforts. Hessian Minister for Family and Health Diana Stolz has praised the project’s impact. She noted how Di@ Guides have improved the daily lives of older people by making digital tools more accessible.
The expansion will run until June 22, 2026, with new hubs expected to join the network. Organisations that become hubs will gain resources, training, and a platform to connect with other volunteers. The project continues to focus on empowering older adults through digital literacy.
