Bismarck's New Dementia Care Home Redefines Safety and Comfort for Vulnerable Residents

A new nursing home in Bismark is set to provide specialised care for residents with severe dementia. The state of Saxony-Anhalt has allocated nearly four million euros from its corona special fund to rebuild the evangelical facility, Haus der Sinne. Social Minister Petra Grimm-Benne confirmed the financial backing for the project.

The redesigned Haus der Sinne will feature a single-storey, barrier-free layout with an octagonal shape. This design will house 20 residents suffering from severe or very severe dementia. An inner courtyard sits at the centre of the building, offering a secure and accessible outdoor space.

The home's layout includes a circular hallway, allowing for one-way movement during pandemic restrictions. A separate visitor area can also function as an airlock, reducing infection risks. Large windows, spacious common rooms, and naturally ventilated bathrooms will further improve hygiene and comfort.

The project is part of Saxony-Anhalt's Investments in Care and Living programme, which has a total budget of 154 million euros. So far, 101 main applications under the scheme have already received approval.

The rebuilt Haus der Sinne will offer a modern, dementia-friendly environment with enhanced infection control measures. Funding from the state ensures the facility can better support vulnerable residents in future health crises.
