Bhiwandi hospital leaves ICU patients in darkness during blackout

A surprise inspection at IGM Hospital in Bhiwandi revealed patients struggling in complete darkness during a power outage. MP Suresh Mhatre discovered the facility operating without electricity, leaving even ICU patients in severe heat and humidity. The incident has reignited concerns over the hospital’s management and infrastructure. The inspection exposed critical failures at the hospital. Though equipped with a generator, it remained non-functional during the blackout. Patients, including those in intensive care, endured extreme discomfort as temperatures soared.

Criticism of IGM Hospital is not new. Past reports have highlighted poor patient facilities and alleged negligence in healthcare services. This latest incident has intensified scrutiny.

MP Balya Mama sharply condemned the administration for leaving patients in such conditions. He accused officials of serious negligence and hinted at possible irregularities in ongoing projects. His frustration extended to the delayed construction of the Mother and Child Care Hospital within the premises, which remains behind schedule.

Mama has now demanded a high-level inquiry into the power failure and construction delays. He also announced plans to meet Maharashtra’s Chief Minister to push for immediate action against those responsible. The power outage and stalled construction have raised fresh questions about IGM Hospital’s operations. Authorities may face further pressure as calls for accountability grow. The outcome of the proposed inquiry could determine the next steps for the troubled facility.
