Beloved Assam teacher Hamida Begum dies at 64 after long illness

Hamida Begum, a retired primary school teacher, passed away on February 25, 2023, at the age of 64. Known for her kindness and gentle nature, she had been battling kidney and heart diseases before her death. Her funeral prayer, or Janaza, was held in Nazira, Assam, the same evening at 10 pm.

Hamida Begum spent her career teaching at Luthuri Gaon Primary School. She retired only recently, in early 2023, after years of service in education. Colleagues and students often remembered her for her warmth and dedication.

She was married to the late Abdul Hasim Shah, a social worker who had passed away earlier. The couple had two sons, a daughter, and other close relatives who survive her.

Her health had been declining due to long-term treatment for kidney and heart conditions. Despite her illness, those who knew her recalled her strength and quiet resilience.

Hamida Begum's death leaves behind a family and a community that valued her contributions as both a teacher and a compassionate individual. Her Janaza took place in Nazira, where she had lived and worked for many years. She will be remembered by those who knew her for her gentle presence and commitment to education.
