Assam’s New Free Dialysis Centre Eases Patient Burden in Charaideo District

A new three-bedded dialysis centre has opened at Sapekhati Model Hospital in Assam’s Charaideo district, providing free haemodialysis to patients and easing access to critical treatment in the region. Inaugurated by Health Minister Ashok Singhal, the facility operates under the National Health Mission (NHM), Assam, with the state government covering all costs for each session. It features modern haemodialysis machines and serves patients regardless of their financial status. The launch follows efforts to strengthen healthcare at Sapekhati Model Hospital, which serves a diverse, multi-ethnic population. Previously, patients often travelled long distances to larger towns for dialysis. Now, the facility aims to reduce that burden by offering timely, life-saving care closer to home. Assam already provides free haemodialysis through 403 machines across 65 centres under the Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme. The new Sapekhati unit expands this network, further improving access for residents in the greater Sapekhati area. The dialysis centre’s opening marks a step toward better healthcare access in Charaideo district. By eliminating travel barriers and offering free treatment, it ensures patients receive essential care without financial strain. The state government will continue funding all sessions at the facility.
