Cutting Mortality and Disability from Neurosurgical Diseases: Almaty Doctors Set Ambitious Goals
On the eve of Medical Workers' Day, Almaty's City Clinical Hospital No. 4 unveiled a new neurosurgery and neurointervention department, where specialists will perform cutting-edge procedures, reports an Almaty.tv correspondent.
A stroke nearly claimed the life of Rauan Yesmagambetova, a mother of many from the Turksib District. The left side of her body was completely paralyzed, and her speech became slurred. She was rushed to the hospital, where an experienced neurosurgeon recognized the urgency—time was critical—and performed surgery using the facility's state-of-the-art equipment.
"The operation was a success. I'm doing well now, especially after the stroke—though I feared I wouldn't survive that day," Yesmagambetova shared. "Thanks to the angels in white coats. My arms and legs work fine, as you can see. I'm being discharged tomorrow."
The new department's technology meets European standards. Beyond neurosurgical conditions like strokes, its advanced systems enable complex cardiac procedures.
"Coronary artery bypass surgery saves lives," said Askar Narimbayev, head of the department at Hospital No. 4. "If a patient seeks help in time—at the first signs of angina—we can perform bypass surgery quickly, avoiding complications like heart failure that may arise later."
In just one month, the hospital's skilled team has already conducted 51 coronary examinations using the new equipment.
