62-Year-Old Woman Beats Severe COVID-19 After Weeks in ICU

A 62-year-old woman in critical condition has been admitted to Almaty's Central City Clinical Hospital, with her lungs fully compromised, Almaty.tv reports, citing the hospital's press service.

The patient was initially placed on noninvasive ventilation in the intensive care unit before being transferred to a ward to continue treatment. In addition to COVID-19, she suffered from comorbidities, including type 2 diabetes (severe, insulin-dependent) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

"As of today, the patient's condition is stable, and she is preparing for discharge. During her treatment, she received antiviral therapy, corticosteroids, and oxygen support," said her attending physician, Atabek Agadilov.

The patient herself expressed heartfelt gratitude to her "heroes."

"This was probably the hardest time of my life. I felt so terrible—I couldn't breathe, and I thought I wouldn't survive. Because I have asthma, I assumed it had flared up. My husband fell ill three days after I was hospitalized. He'd been vaccinated, so his case was mild—just a few days of fever, and that was it. I want to say a deeply human thank you to every member of the Central City Clinical Hospital staff. You save lives every single day, working tirelessly to help us, the sick, leave your hospital alive and well. You are the true heroes of our time!"
