Teen survives fatal brain injury after emergency surgery in Yakutia

A 14-year-old boy has survived a life-threatening head injury after a fall from a horse. The accident left him with a fractured skull and a severe brain bleed, requiring emergency surgery. Doctors in Yakutia acted quickly to save his life under critical conditions.

The boy was rushed to Olekmin Central District Hospital in a serious state. His injuries included a skull fracture and an epidural hematoma, with 50 ml of blood compressing his brain. The risk of fatal brain swelling made his condition extremely dangerous.

Dr. Kirill Yuryevich Kurganov led a team that performed an urgent craniotomy. The complex procedure successfully removed the hematoma, stabilising the boy's condition. Without the surgery, his survival would have been unlikely. Once out of immediate danger, the patient was transferred to Yakutsk. There, he will continue his recovery with specialised rehabilitation treatment.

The boy's life is no longer at risk following the emergency operation. His transfer to Yakutsk marks the next phase of recovery after the critical intervention. The medical team's swift action ensured he survived injuries that could have been fatal.
