Almaty secures two-month drug reserve to prevent shortages

Almaty’s medicine supply remains steady, with no reported shortages in pharmacies or hospitals. Authorities have built up a two-month reserve of essential drugs to ensure stability in the city’s healthcare system. The city’s stabilisation fund currently holds over 8 million medicines, including eight types of cardiovascular treatments. Pharmaceutical companies support this effort with more than 20 million drugs in their own stockpiles. Combined, these suppliers have delivered over 40 million units of 68 different medicines to Almaty.

Hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies undergo weekly checks to track drug availability. Cardiovascular medications remain fully stocked, and medical masks are available in every pharmacy across the city. Doctors continue to prescribe treatments based on active ingredients rather than brand names to maintain consistency in care.

The measures ensure that Almaty’s residents have uninterrupted access to necessary medications. With reserves in place and regular monitoring, the city’s healthcare system is prepared to meet demand without disruption.
